Face-to-Face Chair & DSE Workstation Assessments
Get to the root of work-related pain in greater detail with our 'Face-to-Face' Chair & DSE Workstation Assessment services. These in-depth, one-to-one assessments are designed to identify and help eliminate problems associated with Chair & Display Screen Equipment (DSE) use.
By 'problems', we mean anything that could be aggravating, contributing to, or directly causing discomfort while an employee is working with DSE—most commonly musculoskeletal issues affecting the neck, shoulders, back, arms, or wrists.
What the Assessment Involves
The assessment is a face-to-face session focused on understanding the individual, their chair & workstation, and the demands of their role. The aim is to review and improve the chair & workstation set-up to help alleviate musculoskeletal discomfort and, in turn, support employee wellbeing and productivity.
Face-to-face assessments allow for a more detailed and practical approach, particularly where discomfort is ongoing, complex, or has not been resolved through basic DSE screening. This 'in person' approach suits the more complicated cases that require deeper knowledge and experience to address reported issues. These are generally musculoskeletal in nature and may involve:
- Persistent or worsening discomfort
- Previous injury or medical conditions
- Complex or non-standard workstation set-ups
- Specialist equipment or demanding computer-based tasks
During the appointment, the assessor will:
- Ask the user about any discomfort or issues experienced when using their chair & workstation
- Discuss relevant medical conditions (where appropriate)
- Review the tasks and activities undertaken at the workstation
- Observe the user’s working posture and movement patterns
- Make practical adjustments to the chair & workstation where possible to improve posture and comfort
Data Collection and Recommendations
Face-to-face chair & DSE workstation assessments collate detailed information, including observations, measurements and an understanding of the users role and daily their tasks. All recommendations remain clear, practical, and focused on achievable improvements.
Following the assessment, a comprehensive report is provided focusing on the reason for referral. The report will include:
- A description of the workstation and equipment
- An overview of the user’s working posture
- Identified areas where the set-up could be improved
- Any changes made during the appointment
- Further recommendations to improve comfort, reduce discomfort, and manage risk (where relevant)
Reports are written in clear, accessible language and can be shared with managers, HR, or occupational health teams as required.
